Natalia Komashko holds a Master of Arts in Art History from the Moscow State University. She has been on the personnel of the Central Andrey Rublev Museum of Ancient Russian Culture and Art since 1984 and has held the position of Scientific Secretary at the Museum since 1999 until March 2022. Ms. Komashko is a cultural property expert, certified by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. Throughout her career, Ms. Komashko has curated numerous exhibitions of Russian late medieval and Post-Petrine era church art at the Central Andrey Rublev Museum, the Tsaritsyno Museum, and the State Central Exhibition Hall “Manege.”
Her research includes two expeditions in 2007 and 2009 aimed at identifying Russian icons of historical significance in Greek museum and church collections. She also directed and developed the theoretical framework for the “Russian icons of Sinai” Project, leading the project’s research expeditions to the Sinai Monastery in 2003–2005 and in 2011. Ms. Komashko’s written work includes co-authorship of the book Russian Icons of Sinai, three monographs, numerous museum exhibition catalogues, multiple exhibition catalogue articles on historical monuments of 17th–18th century iconographic art, and regular contributions to the Orthodox Encyclopedia. Ms. Komashko has authored over 100 academic publications.
