Dr. Ioannou has obtained a BA in History and Archaeology at the University of Athens, an MA in History of Western Art at the same university and a PhD at the University of Crete. His Thesis was on the work of the painter Belisario Corenzio (1558-1646).
Between 1993 and 1997 he was a member of the editing board of the Dictionary of Greek Artists (16-20 cent.), vol. 1-4, Athens, Melissa Publishers, 1997-2000; Between 1997 and 2004 he did research in various Italian archives, mainly in Venice, Naples, and Rome; Between 1999 and 2000 he was Researcher at The Hellenic Institute of Venice. Since 2005 is Lecturer of Art History at the University of Crete; since 2011, Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Crete; and since 2018 Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Crete; Since 2007 is Researcher at the Institute of Mediterranean Studies – FORTH.
