Aleksandr Preobrazhenskii, born in 1979 in Voronezh, USSR (now Russian Federation), graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University in 2001. He is doctor in Art History (2004), senior fellow researcher at The Department of Medieval Russian Art at The State Institute for Art Studies in Moscow, as well as associate professor at The Department of Art History, Faculty for History, Lomonosov Moscow State University.


Dr. Preobrazhenskii is a specialist in medieval Russian icons and murals as well as in Russian Church art of the 18th – 19th centuries. His special interests encompass problems of iconography and style, issues of donor portraiture and votive inscriptions, and artistic contacts between Russia and the Orthodox East. His PhD thesis on donor imagery of Medieval Russia became a base for a fundamental monograph on the same subject. Dr. Preobrazhenskii is the author of about 150 publications edited both in Russia and abroad, including few collective monographs.
