Vassilis Paschalis is the Head of the Conservation Department of the Benaki Mueum. He joined the Benaki team in 1997 and has been leading the conservation department since 2010. He holds a degree in the field of conservation of antiquities and works of art. He was trained in easel paintings conservation in the National Gallery – Alexander Soutzos Museum in Athens and then furthered his studies in Greek culture and archaeology at the University of Cyprus, faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. He has a special interest in the analysis of inorganic pigments and their use in paintings and has published extensively on this field. Amongst his other duties, he coordinates the department’s participation in various research programmes.
